Wappingers Falls Bathroom, Part 1

Our blog today is meant to give you a bit insight into a bathroom remodel! The ultimate goal is to keep you safe and comfortable while living through your dream remodel! I would like to reiterate, as usual, that I am no remodeling guru! This information comes about by sitting down with one of the industry experts in our company and them spilling all the ‘must-knows’ when doing a specific job type. Since I am pretty close to having the same knowledge that most first time remodelers have, it’s easy to regurgitate the information into layman’s terms! Future blogs, as well as past blogs, are by no means meant to pinpoint a specific persons’ job, nor do we promise to cover every detail in a remodel. Enjoy!

The shower and/or bathtub! This can make or break your bathroom with its’ placement, size, shape, etc. Fixtures can make a huge difference in the look of your bathroom. Here at DBS, we encourage homeowners to choose items on what will continue to make them happy in 5 years, not make their pocket happy in 5 minutes; especially if you are planning to live in your home for a while. Another way to look at it is to pay more now, but less later! It also really comes down to style preference. Also, a lot of choices are made by following trends. A current popular trend is to have both a tub and a shower, in the shower. (See what I mean HERE!)Another current trend is turning existing tubs into beautiful custom shower stalls with mosaic tiles, with fancy grab bars, alcoves for soap and shampoo, and bench seats. The great thing about converting to a shower stall is that it can be completely custom, just the way you want it. For instance, you can choose between an acrylic shower base and a custom tiled shower. Homeowners can decide if they want a traditional wall shower, if they’d like to halve out the partition wall or take it out all together and replace with a full glass wall to open up the room. Frameless glass shower doors are the bees knees! The options are endless, so do your homework!

While continuing to think about your shower, another option is to add a bench, as we mentioned earlier. This raises a few questions: will you build it into the wall and continue with the tile design, or to attach a flip down bench to the wall so that no space is lost when it’s not being used? Where will you put your belongings? Install corner shelves, or build in niches into the wall. It’s all about style and preference.

Style of fixtures can really spruce up your bathroom! Faucets, showerhead, lighting, racks, handles, … right down to the handles on the doors of your storage units and your doorknob! Finishes (brass, bronze, copper, etc.) make a big difference and normally, are consistent throughout – but that’s what makes every project unique. It’s YOUR dream remodel. Remodelers will often recommend you to a retailer showroom where you can make your selections, and will be directly communicated to your contractor. One thing to really keep in mind is the room, spacing, and code requirements of the space in your home.
