Power Loss Was Awesome!
Hopefully we are all returning to normal from one of the worst storms in recent history! I know in advance that you are going to say that I am crazy! How could anything good come out of a power outage… spoiled food, flushing toilets with snow, greasy hair and a cold and damp night…UGHHH! To make matters worse there was little to no cell tower service! So while this powerful storm stripped me of the modern conveniences that we all have come to enjoy (and probably take for granted), it allowed me to experience something that is always available, yet seldom taken advantage of. My wife and I, along with our children Ayla and Reed, lit a bunch of candles and sat around the fireplace and played games all night! We went to bed early…all snuggled by the fire. We had fun, lots of laughs and an amazing evening and one that I will always remember.

cornucopia_250We have so many things to be thankful for, and for me…that powerless night was certainly one of them. When we are pushed to our limits… whether it is the economy, a power outage or some other obstacle in our lives it is usually accompanied by a silver lining. It may not always be easy to see, but, it is always there for sure.

Thanksgiving is upon us and the holidays are right around the corner! It is almost time to get the Christmas decorations out and muster up some good old fashion Holiday Spirit! This is a great week to gather with family and friends and truly be thankful for the good things in our lives.

I recently spoke to my kids about getting a generator. Needless to say they are against it and the notion of erasing their silver lining! Time keeps rolling on indeed, however, we must take time to stop and smell the Turkey!

Foster Flooring
Elegance To Touch The Heart and Sole

In 1976, Foster Flooring was established as a family owned and operated local business by Ron Foster, Sr. and his brothers. Foster Flooring was originally opened on Union Street in Poughkeepsie and from there moved up to Main Street. After a devastating fire the company eventually changed location from Main Street to 44 Plaza. The move was made in 1990 from 44 Plaza to the current showroom which is located in the very heart of Staatsburg Village directly behind Portofino’s Restaurant.

Since that time the proverbial torch was passed from father to son. Current owner, Ron Foster II, along with co-owner and brother-in-law, Glen LaGoy, serve the Hudson Valley with the same outstanding customer service, product quality and flawless installation that Ron Foster, Sr. provided over 30 years ago.

At Foster Flooring you'll find fathers, sons, nieces and nephews all working together to ensure that the customer's every need is taken care of. Even the atmosphere of the showroom emminates the very comforts of home, providing relaxing places to review product, clean displays to browse through and a play area for children.

It’s hard to believe that it was over 12 years ago I interviewed with Brian to explore joining the team at DBS Remodel. I remember how impressed I was with the company values, the emphasis on quality and the integrity to handle everything with the utmost in client satisfaction. For me, I eagerly wanted to be a part of the future of this company. The opportunity was extended to me in March of 2000 to join the team, for which, I consider myself extremely fortunate.

DBS Remodel has opened many doors for me each year to transition from what was, at first, a job into a career. From 2007-2010, I had the privilege of serving as President of our local Chapter of NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry). In January of 2010, I concluded and earned a designation in our industry as a Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist (CAPS) and completed training to be an EPA Certified Renovator.
Every day I am grateful to be surrounded by a team of remarkable co-workers who inspire me to find new ways to improve who we are, what we do and how we do it. I admire and respect each of them for the strengths they contribute to our company.

I would like to take this opportunity to say “Thank you!” to all of our clients. Your friendships, support, trust and confidence is greatly appreciated! I look forward to the continued privilege to work with you and your families in the future!

This place is great! I was looking for a place to have a nice lunch/ business meeting and Jenn in our office recommended Café Tomas. I enjoyed it so much that I returned within a week for lunch again! This is a nice cozy place where you will be just as pleased with the customer service as you will with the food!

CafeTomas_200I started lunch on both occasions with a delicious soup. The first time I had butternut squash and the second time I had pork and chorizo. Both of these soups were amazing! I ordered the same sandwich on both occasions…Grilled chicken with roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella with house dressing on foccacia bread. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious!

What’s a meal without dessert! The Summerlin Bakery is located in the café and offers some of the finest baked goods in the area. I picked assorted cookies both times to perfectly finish off my lunch!

CafeTomas_350I mentioned the customer service. Dorothy is the manager and she is the right person for the job. Her and Madeline are extremely welcoming and really give you the sense that they enjoy their job and appreciated my business! For that and some fresh baked cookies…I will return! I love this place!
